The Wrong Horse
Not every horse is meant to stay.
And that’s okay.
Zeus was never the wrong horse—just the wrong horse for me.
For four years, I tried. Trainers came and went. He had too much fire, too much “go,” too much something to be the quiet partner I needed for healing and team-building work -- or even for the leisurely trail rides that I prefer.
And then I realized the truth:
He didn’t need to be changed.
He needed to be seen.
Today, Zeus belongs to a teenage boy who loves his wild spirit. The two of them have built a partnership that’s fast, focused, and full of joy. This summer, they’ve held top rankings in nearly every event at the county fair—and they’re headed to the state fair later this month.
Sometimes the bravest thing is knowing when to let go.
To admit you bit off more than you could chew.
To celebrate when someone else can do what you couldn’t—not with shame, but with grace.
Here’s to the “wrong” horses who lead us to the right lessons.
And to knowing when to step back so someone else can shine.
Good luck at State, Zeus! (August, 2025)
